NSCCAU files Grievance Student Service Counsellors

The NSCCAU has filed a grievance with the NSCC with respect to Student Services Counsellors – Personal and Career positions. The College’s allocation of Student Services Counsellor – Personal and Career positions among the various campuses in the province is not reasonable as there are no said positions assigned to eCampus. As a resolution to this grievance, the Union is seeking that the College post and fill an appropriate number of Student Services Counsellor – Personal and Career positions at eCampus.

The Union is concerned that the College has decided to outsource counselling to MyWellness, and to increase the workload on all existing campuses by advising the over 2000 students at eCampus to contact a counsellor at their closest campus.

While cultural support positions were not part of this grievance, we have reached out to the College in various ways (College Union Committee, meetings with managers and HR) to point out the inequity in services to all campuses. Currently, there are numerous campuses that have no access to African-Canadian or Indigenous Supports.  Students are directed to management if their campuses do not have cultural supports.  The College is aware of the concerns.  They have filled one vacant African-Canadian support position at Ivany, but have yet to address the situation at other campuses.

We will keep you posted as new information arises.
