Dear Members,

As you know, the AAU filed for conciliation on January 19

A conciliator has been appointed and offered us a meeting date in the first week of February, February 6, about which we were very pleased.  The College has said they are not available on that date because they had other important meetings.

We are extremely disappointed that NSCC, looking at potentially over half of their provincial workforce going on strike would not move those meetings in order to settle our contract.

We reached out to the Conciliator and provided information on the background of our deadlines and strike vote and stated that we were giving the College a significant bargaining advantage by delaying conciliation until late February.  The Conciliator was unable to provide any other dates, so we are now looking at conciliation on February 21st and 22nd.

We then reached out to both Don Bureaux and Anna Burke, and Anna was the only one who returned our call, and she stated that the meetings could not be moved.  Anna has also sent an email to some members indicating that we had “common agreement” on the conciliation dates.  This is ABSOLUTELY FALSE.  We made it very clear that we were not happy with the late February dates.

We have since reached out to the head of Conciliation Services for the province to plead our case once again.  We are still waiting on a response.

Clearly employees are not the priority of the College, and thus ultimately neither are students.

We now feel that it is important to reach out to the NSCC Board of Governors with our concerns and issues. Click below to send a message to the Chair of the Board of Governors and other Board members.  You can choose to send the form letter or write your own letter in the blank provided.
