AAU files for Conciliation

As the Atlantic Academic Union reached the Strike Deadline of January 15, 2024, they continued their efforts to reach a settlement on outstanding issues. On Friday, January 19, 2024 it became clear to the AAU Negotiation Team that the outstanding issues could not be resolved without assistance of a neutral third party and as a result they filed for Conciliation with the province.

A Conciliator was appointed and both AAU and NSCC were offered a meeting date of February 6. The AAU was very pleased with this date. The College, unfortunately, has said they are not available on that date because they had other important meetings.

The AAU reached out to the Conciliator and provided information on the background of their deadlines and strike vote and stated that they were giving the College a significant bargaining advantage by delaying conciliation until late February.  The Conciliator was unable to provide any other dates, so we are now looking at conciliation on February 21st and 22nd.

The Atlantic Academic Union has expressed they are extremely disappointed that NSCC,  looking at potentially over half of their provincial workforce going on strike, would not move those meetings, in order to settle our contract.  They did reach out to ask the College to do so, again last night.  AAU: “Clearly employees are not their priority”.
